How to Organise a School Camp in Mauritius: A 10-Step Guide

Planning a school camp in Mauritius is mostly a logistics exercise: get the sequence right and the day looks after itself. This guide walks Mauritian teachers and heads through ten steps, from picking a date to running a safe, well-supervised programme.

1. Start with your learning goal, not the activity

Decide what the camp is for before you shortlist activities. A Year 7 bonding trip, a Year 11 leadership push and an after-exams reward day are three different briefs. Naming the outcome — belonging, collaboration, resilience, celebration — makes every later decision easier and gives you something to measure. You can even add an optional pre- and post-programme survey and get back a short impact mini-report on what your cohort achieved.

2. Choose the right format

Match the format to the goal and the age group:

3. Fix the date around the school calendar

Timing is the single biggest constraint in Mauritius. The prime selling and delivery window is February to July. Senior grades enter an exam blackout from roughly mid-September to late November (SC, HSC, PSAC and NCE), so plan reward and leavers’ events for after exams. The winter break (18 July–16 August 2026) and the year-end break are natural camp windows for holiday formats.

4. Respect the cyclone season for overnight camps

The cyclone season runs 1 November to 15 May. Day programmes stay cyclone-tolerable through an indoor-game fallback. Overnight camps do run inside the window — early-December holiday camps and Easter residentials among them — but only with a weather clause in the booking and a contracted indoor fallback venue pre-booked. Never commit to tents in-window without both.

5. Set your group size and budget

Our day programmes have a minimum group of 25 — the published from-prices apply from 25 pupils up, and smaller groups are quoted individually. As a planning baseline:

Day programmes from Rs 550 per student (beach) or Rs 850 (domaine estate).
One-night expedition camp from Rs 1,800 per pupil.
Multi-night residentials quoted per pupil per night on a group-size tier.

Because we publish these from-prices, you can budget before you enquire — most Mauritian providers only quote on request.

6. Build in the free teacher places

Every school programme includes one free accompanying-teacher place for every 8 pupils. Factor that into your staffing plan early: a 48-pupil year group earns six free adult places, comfortably covering the supervising staff you need.

7. Get the supervision and safety model right

For day programmes the delivery model is one TeamBuilding.mu crew plus two school staff per 25 pupils, with at least one first-aider on site. All crew are Certificate-of-Character (CoC) vetted. Archery-tag stations run under the ARETA Safety Management System — and note that traditional paintball is not available in Mauritius, so we use Bowfighters / Archery Tag instead.

9. Plan transport, meals and weather cover

Transport and catering are usually the items schools forget to price.
